Aegon, through the ITdonations Foundation, has donated the residual value of old ICT equipment to the Guindy School in Chennai, India. The donation from the insurance company amounted to €89,413.25. The Guindy School provides free education for the poorest groups in the region. In it, children up to the age of seventeen are taught to prepare them for higher education.
ITdonations Foundation, founded in 2007 by Gerard Aldus, director/owner of circular it specialist NEG-Group, makes it easy for companies and organizations to act in a socially responsible manner by donating the residual value of their surplus it equipment to a charity of their choice. The foundation collects the equipment, ensures safe data disposal and arranges the residual value. Over 3.4 million euros in donations have already been realized through the foundation.
Aegon has been working with application services partner HCL for many years. Through this Indian offshore specialist, the insurer came into contact with the Guindy School (in full: Lions Club of Guindy Labor Colony High School). Previous donations to the school have included a water treatment plant and a science classroom. Aegon employees have also helped paint the school buildings.
