Since October, the British Library has been struggling with a major it outage caused by a cyber attack. As a result, the world-famous library is running at half power. The website is still down and consultation of the collection is limited. It may take weeks before the (online) services are back in order.
Exactly who was behind the cyber attack has not been disclosed. However, the British Library does reveal that "this was a ransomware attack, by a group known for such criminal activity. The library says it has taken targeted, protective measures to protect its systems. It is also conducting a forensic investigation with the support of the British National Cyber Security Centre, the Metropolitan Police and cybersecurity specialists.
