The Center for Mathematics & Computer Science (CWI) is hosting an event Jan. 18 on the future of Cobol and mainframes. For this strategic Cobol day, the center is collaborating with Quuks and Software Improvement Group (SIG). According to the organization, action is needed because the number of senior Cobol experts is declining rapidly.
The event will focus on best practices, failures and new collaborations to secure the future of Cobol and mainframe infrastructures. The day will focus on the three strategic components of technology, finance and human resources. Target groups are companies, governments and research and educational institutions.
A dozen speakers from both the demand and supply sides are scheduled. They will highlight new scientific insights and future visions, including IBM's outlook on mainframe technology and a look at the future of Visual Cobol, the most widely used integrated development environment for Cobol programmers. Visual Cobol was developed by Micro Focus, now part of OpenText.
