Artificial intelligence is best studied in Groningen. The RUG (68 points on a scale of 100) stays far ahead of Eindhoven TU/e (61) and Tilburg TiU (60), numbers 2 and 3, in this area. Amsterdam VU (49) which has the largest intake scores inadequately. Certainly in terms of content, VU is far below average. The atmosphere there is not the best either, students feel. In computer science, the Open University is, as in previous years, proudly at the top with 78 points on a scale of 100, according to the Keuzegids Universities 2024.

The number of first-year artificial intelligence students is 1,550 compared to 1,323 a year earlier, according to the Choice Guide Universities 2024. Of these, a third are women. Of the seven universities that teach this subject, only Amsterdam UvA and Utrecht UU have Dutch as their language of instruction. Interestingly, only 60 percent of recently graduated ai experts work at the wo level. At 3,200 euros, their average gross salary is considerably lower than young dentists who go home with six thousand euros. Young computer scientists earn an average of 3,250 euros.

In computer science, as in previous years, the Open University stands proudly at the top with 78 points on a scale of 100. Content and testing are best there, students say. Nijmegen RU (68) and the data science studies of Eindhoven and Tilburg (64) score more than satisfactory. Leiden UL (47) and Amsterdam VU (46) lag far behind. In technical computer science, the differences are small. Eindhoven TU/e (61), Delft TU (60) and Enschede UT (58) score just or close to a six.

Information science students are in good hands at the Open University (69). Utrecht UU (67) and Groningen RUG (60) follow. Amsterdam UvA (39) is not very good. Content, teachers and tests are far below average there.

The best-rated study is in the Other information studies category. Data science and society (Leeuwarden RUG) is rated with 88 points. Good ratings are for medical computer science at Amsterdam UvA (79), business it at Enschede UT (69) and computer social science, also at UvA (67).

Internationalization in university education continues to increase. By the 2024-2025 academic year, 47 percent of university bachelor's degrees will be in English. The new Choice Guide contains students' judgments about their studies, success rates, intake data and an overview of all university bachelors.
