Writing Method On Board: do you sail along for a bit?

Fancy broadening your horizons? And that of your students? Then take a trip with the Aan Boord writing method and discover how to teach your students to write well and with pleasure.

On Board is designed to teach students to write at their own pace, properly and legibly. Because students who write letters and numbers well on paper are better able to focus their attention on content. That way, they master the material better, learn to take notes smoothly and turn in work that you can easily review.

Ten Golden Rules of Writing
By taking students step by step through the rules of writing, they will get a handle on their handwriting. You will teach them to write well with pleasure and at their own pace. Our Ten Golden Writing Rules are the foundation of the method: at every moment that students write, they learn to apply the rules about the correct writing direction and design of letters. This creates a logical connection between your writing lessons and every other time students write.

Cross
On Board starts as early as grades 1 and 2. Preschoolers learn to recognize and master the correct basic formation of letters and numbers through play. For this purpose, we have The Route Game and Letter Puzzles. The start for the continuous line of handwriting education is made playful in this way.

We sail our route with the boat: each letter the student learns to make using the image of the boat. In the hull of the boat, they will shape the hull letters. Through the mast of the boat they will learn to make the stick letters. The loop up gets the wind in the sails and the loop down bends around the anchor. The image of the boat stimulates the imagination of the students who thus find it easier to stay "on board" during the writing lesson.

Practice and repeat
Give each student the opportunity to practice letters as much as needed until you see that the letter comes to paper in the correct writing direction and with the correct design. In addition to your guidance and the consistent provision of the correct example of letters, our special writing notebooks with guide lines and good teaching and observation materials, complete the Aan Boord method.

ACTION: 'test sailing' with Color Cards
Curious? Then put our On Board Color Cards to the test. With these, you'll offer students a writing activity that ties in with everyday practice. Each student colors and writes a card to surprise someone who is birthday, sick or deserves a hug. Read more about this promotion later in this article.

Fun and educational
Of course, making these cards is especially fun to do. What else will your students learn from it?

  • Coloring the planes and letters encourages fine finger motor skills.
  • They experience that coloring and writing with attention takes time: the card does not have to be finished at once :-).
  • With writing the card and address, they learn to use letters and capital letters correctly.
  • There are guide lines on the address side of the card to write neatly and legibly: handy for the letter carrier!

Who will your students make happy with a brightly colored and self-written card?
