'Diversity, equality and inclusion'

Main topic - Tuesday, Jan. 21 2025

Education is the key to emancipation and can be "the great equalizer" provided it provides equal opportunities for all. Childcare and elementary schools are important places where children from different backgrounds come together and play together.

'An increase in segregation in society, and therefore also in education, means that different groups of children meet less and therefore learn less from each other. This affects the development of the individual. In addition, segregation unbalances challenges of different schools,' the Equal Opportunities Alliance said.

More segregation is in society leads to children being with diverse social, economic and cultural backgrounds meeting and learning from each other less. A trend that is widely considered worrisome.

It is important that children and young people feel valued and seen at school, both by their classmates and by teachers and other school staff. To provide equal opportunities, it is important that educational professionals are mindful of diversityand have the skills to promote equality and inclusion. Role models make a positive contribution to this. Therefore, it is desirable that teacher teams reflect the student population and preferably all of society.

By adapting working conditions, diversity and inclusion can be promoted, for example by offering opportunities to people distanced from the labor market. The childcare and education sectors can set an example in this and inspire other sectors.

At the NOT you as a visitor have the opportunity to share experiences and actively engage in dialogue about diversity, equality and inclusion in education and childcare.
